Does The Abominable Snowman (Yeti) Really Exist In The Himalayas?

Throughout the years, especially during ancient times, several myths and fables became popular with people. These stories are often a product of human imagination, wherein the idea sometimes came from real creatures.

These creatures sometimes have magical powers in different forms, which proves to have no scientific explanation. On the other hand,

some people provide supporting information to prove their claims that some of these monsters do exist.

Some of the most common mythical creatures include the Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, and the Abominable Snowman.

What is the Abominable Snowman?

The Abominable Snowman, commonly known as the Yeti, is a mysterious creature that some people believe to be living in the Himalayas. The name, Yeti, is famous in Himalayan folklore, while the title, Abominable Snowman, is a term popularized from the Western Culture. There are several claims concerning the existence of the mysterious creature. Its story is well known all around the globe and still remains a mystery until today.

People said that its appearance is somehow similar to humans, which is others also regards the Yeti as the “missing link.” Its body appears to be muscular and covered grayish or brownish hair. Reports show that Yetis stand up to more than six feet tall or 1.8 meters, and along with its human-sized body, it weighs between 200 to 400 pounds – or 91 to 181 kilograms. This appearance is the most common among all reported sightings, but there are several other claimed appearances of the Yeti from various people.

Interestingly, the Abominable Snowman often appears in our pop culture – mainly in movies, TV shows, books, and many others. It appears in ancient folklore in some parts of Asia, and elders often define its entity as a sign of danger.

Its influence has not only to reach across Asia but also to many countries in the west.

Moreover, its existence caught the interest of many people because of the various claims acting as proofs of life. However, these so-called pieces of evidence are debunked by scientists and researchers because of the lack of scientific facts.

Is the Abominable Snowman real?

Despite the several proofs provided by different people, the Abominable Snowman still failed to prove its existence. Some of these proofs include body parts, footprints, as well as photographs. However, after further studies conducted by experts, they concluded that the said pieces of evidence were fake. Along these artifacts retrieved by people, researchers conducted dozens of expeditions to the Himalayas, in search of the mysterious creature.

Some of the misidentifications made by people are because of the similar-looking animals living in the vicinity. The people living near the Himalayas often see these animals and sometimes mistaken them to be the Abominable Snowman. The animal sightings include the chu-teh, a langur monkey, the Tibetan blue bear, and the Himalayan brown bear. The Tibetan blue bear is the most common misconception for the Abominable Snowman since they can stand on two legs or all fours.

One of the major proof found in the Himalayas is the large footprint, which many people believe tocame from the Abominable Snowman. However, researchers quickly debunked this belief due to not having further facts, and another reason is that the footprints could be made by other animals living near the area – like wolfs or bears.

In March 1986, Anthony Warrick took a photograph of a creature in the Himalayas that looks like the Yeti. However, when researchers studied it, it turns out that the creature is neither the Yeti nor any other animal. Instead, it is a blurry image of a rock formation in the snow, which is still present in the Himalayas until today.

In the 1950s, a Hollywood movie star, James Stewart, claimed to have a Yeti finger artifact. A DNA study in 2011 showed that the supposed Yeti finger is actually from a human.

Some foundings consists of hair scalp, which includes the actual hair of the Yeti, but further studies about the artifacts showed that it came from other animals living in the Himalayas – mainly from bears and antelope.

These are only some of the many supposed pieces of evidence to support the existence of the Abominable Snowman. However, despite this effort in proving its validity, there is no concrete proof that the Yeti actually exist. Until today, a number of people still find proof about the mythical creature – Yeti.
